'SPQR' is an extension of Primrose Promises with research conducted in Rome, Italy over the course of 5-days during 2016.
Similar to the other versions of Primrose Promises, samples were collected and mapped. For each day in Rome, a number of samples were taken from walks around the city, later infused into oil over a period of a month, and then cast into a soap made to resemble one of Rome's manhole covers. 'SPQR' is comprised of a wooden crate divided into 5 sections, each one holding two of these cast soaps.
Through the experience of washing with the soap, one can experience a personal as well as an objective experience with the city, washing oneself with the chemicals and pollutants which have been phytoremediated into the city's flora. The good, the bad and the ugly of the city are all imbued into the souvenir case as a collection of objects which should be used against one's body, recreating the experience one has as they wander through the urban landscape of Rome.
