The floating installation of the Raft/Roofs create a simultaneous double image for the viewer; that of a house submerged to the roof-line as well as that of a floating structure, independent and nomadic.
Designed for the theme of rising sea-levels, the Raft/Roofs are an invention which could be implemented on new and existing houses as life-rafts. If extreme flooding were to occur, the Raft/Roofs would gently lift off of the original structure of the house with family safe inside. ideally such structures would be built with aluminum, plastics and foam to create durable solutions for a changing climate but for the situation of creating a semi-permanent public artwork in a natural environment, the installation used completely natural and biodegradable materials.
Viewing the floating installation, one sees parallel views of the future in a single moment.
