JUSTIN TYLER TATE
Justin Tyler Tate is a Canadian-born, internationally recognized artist known for his diverse and prolific practice. Receiving a BFA from NSCAD University and a MFA from Helsinki Academy of Fine Arts, his work encompasses sculpture, installation, media, performance, and social art.
Tate’s artistic journey has included solo exhibitions at The Factory in Manchester, NH, USA (2023); Critical Distance Gallery in Toronto, Canada (2019); and Temporary in Helsinki, Finland (2017). He’s been featured in group exhibitions such as ‘Art in digital contexts and public spaces’ at LINZ FMR23 in Linz, Austria (2023); ‘The Jeju Biennale’ in Jeju, South Korea (2017); ‘A-Eye’ at Goldsmiths, University of London, in London, UK (2014); as well as the current ‘Rewilding’ exhibition, at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa, Canada (2024-2025). |
Tate has also participated in numerous artist-in-residence programs, including at BreckCreate in Breckenridge, Colorado (2019, 2025), Nordic Artist's Center Dale in Dale, Norway (2022); Tokachi AiR in Nakasatsunai, Hokaido, Japan (2014); Nida Art Colony in Nida, Lithuania (2011, 2013, 2019); The Confederation Centre in PEI, Canada (2009), and many more. His commitment to artistic dialogue is evident through his role as a curator, most recently for the ‘Peer2Pickle’ exhibition at apexart Gallery, New York City, NY, USA (2019); in addition to his authorship of numerous art-and-culture-related publications
