'Primrose Promises' is a series of research and production projects developed on three continents, set in various locations and under various time constraints. The project attempts to analyze and deconstruct local landscapes through a chemical exploration of plant life and found objects in a predetermined area. In each case, samples are collected, generally mapped, and those samples are then used to create chemically accurate botanical drawings, for using as tinctures, for making into perfumes and/or soaps. Through this array of traditional and non-traditional art-objects, a viewer is able to understand the environment not through how it looks but through the chemical fingerprint that can be extruded to produce pigments, flavors and scents. Through the project, viewers are able to reach a comprehensive understanding of the natural essences and biodiversity of a particular environment.
The whole body of work includes alcoholic distillations, devices for distilling alcohol constructed from found objects, chemically accurate illustrations of collected samples, photos of collection sites, workshops, soaps produced from collection sites, as well as an online map.
