'Conceptual Realism'
Drawing Workshop
In this workshop for children and adults, participants collaborated on 2x A0 format drawings. The workshop began with a brief introduction to the process followed by an exploratory tour through the local neighborhood to find plant samples for drawing. Upon returning to the hosting Art Space IAa, there was a short intermission for lemonade and gimbap before participants were shown how to draw samples and imprint their pigmentation onto the paper.
The goal of the workshop is to instigate a moment for exploration and discovery. Participants investigated the neighborhood's biodiversity through the collection of samples while at the same time documenting the chemistry that is naturally present in the area as well as that which has been phytoremediated by the local flora. The culmination of this process is a deconstructed landscape where representations are accurate on the chemical level as pigments, toxins as well as nutrients are absorbed and archived on the paper's fibrous scaffolding.
The collective drawings produced in the workshop were included in Jeju Biennale 2017 as part of Primrose Promises: Jeju.
